Kombucha Happy Hour Miami

I’m embarrassed to say I didn’t taste kombucha until about a year and a half ago. I know, my cool wellness guru points just shot down by 15% for some of you. But let me make it up to you! In this post I’ll be covering an ultra hidden gem in a little corner of the hip Miami scene at The Wynwood Yard. The name? Radiate Miami, and its founder Susan Duprey was kind enough to parch my thirst on a hot spring afternoon as I joined her for my very first sober happy hour.

What’s in this stuff?

Vinegary goodness with a dash of fizziness. Primarily made with green or black tea, kombucha has cultures of the healthy bacteria that helps your immune system. Traditionally made with a natural process of fermentation along with sugar it can create trace amounts of alcohol. So what makes this different from herbal teas? Number one it’s cold (#miamisummer) and number two it’s healthy for your gut due to its role as a probiotic beverage. Although an acquired taste for some (I loved it at first drink) juice and other natural ingredients can be added to make it extra yummy. I’m partial to eating fermented veggies (pickels anyone?) But the draw here is the health benefits that so many professional nutritionists are educating their patients on; which is the importance of caring for your intestinal tract and giving the best chance possible to keep it healthy, strong thus giving you great health. Many global cultures have tied illness to the health or lack thereof in the human intestinal tract. Cue in fast food in a hectic lifestyle, lots of sugary foods, skipped meals… the list goes on and the result is poor health. kombucha is just one trending health foods among many that tastes good and can benefit you.

Trend Watch

Susan along with other wellness business owners in the nation are bringing the alternative happy hour to light. The New York times featured a piece on sober happy hours and the business networking that benefited from it. As excessive alcohol consumption becomes a thing of the past this generation is embracing a healthier lifestyle. With that comes different ways to tweak unhealthy habits but still have a lot of fun.

A Little Buzzed

I left Susan with a pink health drink in my hand and a smile on my face as I rushed to my next meeting. Upon arriving I felt a strange sense of relaxation wash over me. I then remembered the small alcoholic traces that are in kombucha and the concept of happy hour became a reality. I still felt alert and not guilty in damaging my liver with traditional alcohol.
