There’s nothing like being a local in Miami and yet feeling like a tourist, and enjoying Spa Month lets you do just that. Today, I’ll answer the question, “Is Miami Spa Month worth the expense?” and do’s and don’ts to help you make your experience memorable.
Quick note, not too many moons ago I rocked my massage skills at some of the most gorgeous spas in Miami. You’re getting a behind the scenes look at Spa Month from someone that has worked within it.
Go for the Day
One of the most attractive reasons to visit a high end spa during spa month is for the use of the amenities. Yes, you might strike gold and get an awesome massage therapist or an esthetician to give you a fantastic service but that’s not guaranteed. When you attend , also visit for the amenities which are relaxation spots such as the sauna, whirlpool, and ice rooms (believe me, the contrast between hot and cold feels incredible). Some spas have enormous sized amenities facilities, so do your research and get the most for your dollar.
Fun with Friends
The spa is a relaxing get away but it’s also a time to enjoy with friends or family. Enjoy a casual conversation with a buddy or go at it alone. However, the spa is a fun experience and I find that it’s wonderful to enjoy with company (unless that person drives you crazy, then no, it’s a definite no).
Treating Muscular Pain
Don’t visit a spa if you have muscular pain. The majority of massage therapists are trained to focused on product lines and relaxation techniques. There are different massage types for each visitor but the spa is a place of recreation and leisure, not for therapy. Unless the spa offers a neuromuscular massage option you’ll be sorely disappointed (literally). Take the muscular injuries and pain to a therapist that specializes in such. As for the spa, leave for a day that you have no physical pain and simply want to feel good. That’s what the massages there are designed to do. Think of it as Disney World for adults.
Miami Spa Month is an annual event that occurs July and August every year. These are financially hard months for spas which is why they choose to participate. Other spas which are well established simply make it part of their summer marketing efforts and are not necessarily struggling for new clientele. Either way, it’s a win win. With a discount of at least 40% you’re enjoying the luxury of Miami’s most beautiful facilities at a fraction of the cost. Just don’t forget to add gratuity! Most $99 services come out to $130-$135 and many are 50 minute services because they include the time for consultation and undress/dressing.
Many spas employee dozens of employees and there are so many factors that will make you connect with one provider or another. You could ask the front desk which is the most booked therapist or esthetician. Chances are they’re very good at what they do if they have a high re-booking rate. Other clues are specialties. If they are known for specific massage styles and they are the go-to person for that, then this provider has probably taken additional education just for that and they’re serious about their career. I find that Trip Advisor reviews will occasionally give credit by name to the massage therapist or esthetician and you can request them as well. Just search for recent reviews because employee turn over in spas are common.
I hope this helps all of you enjoy your last week of the 2017 Miami Spa Month experience!
